Flaming Star (1960)

Michael and Pax visit their second Elvis Presley Western with Flaming Star, a movie about racism that also stars Steve Forrest, Barbara Eden, Dolores del Rio, and John McIntire.

Before that, Pax talks about vintage Western-themed advertising and Michael makes progress in his Western History film project and reviews the Batman Western comic, Batman: The Blue, the Grey, and the Bat.

  1. I've just watched this film and Elvis's other wester, Charro!. This was a pretty good western with a really good story that did not take the predictable path that these stories often take.
Normally, there is little time spent on the conflict within those of mixed heritage, as they quickly choose the "right" side of the conflict. Here, Pacer chooses the "wrong" side but then fights for his family, even when it is his white family member, against that side. Good acting throughout and not overloaded with musical numbers that occur in most Elvis films.
Sadly, LQ Jones does not live long in this film as he is very recognizable. Similar for Richard Jaeckel who is only in two scenes and has also done a lot of westerns over his career.
