High Noon (1952)
Pax and Michael talk about the 1952 western classic, High Noon, starring Gary Cooper, Grace Kelly, and Lloyd Bridges. We talk about likes and a surprising number of dislikes. Come see if we wind up liking it.
The oldest Zorro movie I've seen is Tyrone Power's The Mark of Zorro (1940), which is one of the best Zorro movies made. A strong contender is The Mask of Zorro with Antonio Banderas, a really great updated version of the story. I've seen the 1974 TV-Movie with Frank Langella as Zorro. That was pretty bad. Zorro: The Gay Blade is pretty funny but some of the jokes are pretty cringeworthy by today's standards. George Hamilton did a good job as Zorro though. I am also a big fan of the classic swashbucklers with George Fairbanks, Jr and Tyrone Powers and others.
I'm not a fan of this movie. I am a big fan of Gary Cooper, but I just didn't like how everyone turned their back on him, especially his wife. I know his wife is a quaker, but she fell in love him as a lawman so she must understand somewhat how he feels about his duty. She seems too willing to leave him considering they're supposedly in love. Also, he never makes a verbal appeal to why the townspeople should back him up. It seems the townspeople want the Millers back in town because they brought in business, so why were they willing to help rid the town of the Millers in the first place? I heard a story that John Wayne was offered this role but turned it down. Instead, Wayne made his own version called Rio Bravo.
