The Left Handed Gun (1958)

Pax and Michael discuss Arthur Penn's Billy the Kid tale, The Left Handed Gun, starring Paul Newman as Billy with appearances by The Dukes of Hazzard's James Best and Denver Pyle.

Michael also continues his Western History movie project with The Mountain Men (1980) and Two for Texas (1998). And Pax continues reading Thierry Gloris and Jacques Lamontagne's Wild West graphic novels with a volume about Wild Bill. He also checks out the 1989 TV movie redo of The Left Handed Gun, Gore Vidal's Billy the Kid starring Val Kilmer.

  1. I watched The Ballad of Buster Scruggs and I enjoyed the movie. My favorite segment was the first one with Tim Blake Nelson. I wish this segment was longer. In my watching of Audie Murphy, I did catch The Kid From Texas during a TCM marathon of his films. Every version of Billy the Kid will be compared to Young Guns because that was the portrayal of Billy I grew up with. I think Audie Murphy played The Kid better than Newman. I have started to watch more films by Paul Newman since I've not seen the films that Newman's most known for except for The Towering Inferno and Cool Hand Luke so I may yet become a bigger fan. It's been awhile since I've seen this, and I don't remember much about this movie. But, I do enjoy seeing James Best (Pre-Dukes of Hazzard) and John Dehner is always good and I like him more the more I see of him.
