Maverick (1994)

It's cold out there, but Michael and Pax stay warm by talking about one of their favorite Westerns, 1994's Maverick with Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster, and James Garner. And in a special "Whatchoo Been Westernin'?" segment, they discuss some of the episodes of the Maverick TV show that they watched, too.

  1. I knew of the original Maverick show with James Garner before this movie came out, but never saw an episode. James Garner is great, I can't think of anything I didn't like him in. My wife and I have been watching Doris Day movies and he's in two movies with Day and they were great. I've seen a few episodes of The Rockford Files in reruns, so I knew of it. I mainly remember the car. That was a time of action shows with iconic cars like Dukes of Hazzard, A-Team, Knight Rider, Magnum, etc. I see now that Garner actually had two series as Maverick, one in the 60's and one in the 90's, according to IMDB.
I am a fan of Mel Gibson still, despite his personal problems. He has done some great films. Plus, he is a great director even when he's not in the movie like Apocalypto. I just saw Boss Level on Netflix, and it was great.
This was a great movie! Hilariously funny with a great cast that can do comedy really well. I also loved seeing all of the great character actors in small roles or cameos.
It's a shame they never did a sequel to this movie. It seems like everything has a sequel these days.
